Meditation For TMJ And Braces

by Kevin Bates

TMJ and braces: it doesn't sound like a lot of fun does it? If you are suffering from the horrible pain that TMJ inflicts upon its sufferers, then you may have already visited your dentist. Did he or she suggest braces? If so, your dentist probably thinks that a proper bite will help relieve some of the stress on your TMJ joint when you bite down.

There is no doubt that those annoying metal wires crisscrossing throughout your mouth will give you a fantastic smile. That's certainly something to grin about. Yet, until the dentist removes them you are going to be pretty uncomfortable. What will you do to feel better? Swallow a dozen Advil a day? Maybe it's time to do a few simple home remedies so you can start feeling better today. If so, why not begin with meditation and breathing exercises.

When the pain caused by TMJ and braces strikes, your body has a natural tendency to become extremely tense. What can you do in those moments? Think of it as any other time where you've experienced pain. Maybe you hit your head on the table after reaching down to retrieve a pencil. When this happens, it's important to stay calm as the pain runs its course.

A simple way to remain mellow is to meditate. Whether you're at home or on vacation, just find a place that is quite and relaxing so you can clear your mind. Take incredibly deep breaths. Take another. Focus on your breathing and how relaxing it makes your feel. The combination of meditation and breathing should help you to attain TMJ relief.

If you currently have both TMJ and braces, simple TMJ home remedies such as meditation and breathing exercises might be the right choice for you. Give these a shot for a few minutes everyday to begin the path to recovery.
